Texture Tuesday - the snowmen

 

 

 

I am in love with my little snowmen.  Aren't they adorable?  I bought them at Chick's Picks, a FABULOUS pop up boutique store in Northern Virginia (she is on-line too).  Hillary, the owner of Chick's Picks, supports local artists by selling their creations at her home shows.  She is super talented too!  

The Snowmen were created by Trina Lucido, the very creative owner of the The Paper Flea Market.  And I see she still has a few more snowmen for sale!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I gave three of them away as gifts and  kept the little one below - loved his vintage hat and key.  Maybe I should have kept them all!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I hope they give you a smile today....

The Sunday Bac Ha Market isn't really for tourists.  The Flower H'mong tribe sells live animals, food, and handicrafts.  Wonderful for photography.  

I haven't had much time to play with PS lately.  I miss it.  Lots of traveling to exotic places.  So many photos to create with.  I used several layers  for this image... mine plus Kim's (kk2 & frame it).  Sharing over at TT.

 

 

 

Happy Autumn

 

 

 

I am a fall girl - I love my autumn colors, boots, and scarves.  I miss this.  Here in Singapore, we do not have a change of seasons.  Our sun rises at the exact same time every day, all year, and it sets the same.  Our temperature is in the low 90's everyday and humidity is around 85 to 90% (we are 85 miles from the equator).  Oh yeah, it rains most every day around 3:00 but only for a brief period.  This keeps us lush, green, and tropical.  I am not complaining - I do LOVE living here!  I just miss fall.

 

 

 

 

Yesterday, I changed out my entrance display to fall colors.

 

 

 

 

  I baked pumpkin cupcakes...

 

 

 

and for "art day" we created fall cards.  I pulled out all my leaf, tree, and pumpkin rubber stamps, stencils, and paper.  It was fun.

TT: the electric blue lizard

I have to share the original photo as his natural color was magnificent!

 

 

 

Thai name: Ging-ga Hua Si Fa or Ging-ga Suan

English name: Indo-Chinese Forest Lizard (aka “Blue-crested Lizard” or “IndoChinese Tree Agama”)

Scientific name: Calotes mystaceus

 

 

Description:  Has rough body scales and a back crest that runs from near the back of its head down to the middle of its back. Males have a much more prominent crest than females. Background color is grey to olive with a series of 3-5 reddish spots often running down the side. 

During breeding season the forebody of both males and females will turn a light electric blue.

It is hard to photograph through windows and I usually do not like the reflections, especially when it is of me taking the photo.  But I thought this one actually worked when I added Kim's texture "look up" (with PSE color dodge).

I am in Jakarta Indonesia.  Hubby had a week of meetings so I tagged along.  Not much of a sight-seeing city, just fun to hang out, watch the locals fight traffic, shop, eat and have massages.

tt: nature in bali

 

a penjor

 

 

 

Bali is all about nature.  So many photos I could have selected for the TT theme this week.  I opted to share about the penjor = a tall, curved pole used for important ceremonies in Bali, especially temple celebrations. 

The top photo was altered with Kim's textures 603 & 703 using "difference", one I do not use often.  I love how it looks like a paper cut - out.  Below is the original photo, taken at sunrise in Ubud. 

 

 

 

The penjor is made from a bamboo pole. The pole is decorated with coconut leaves, roots, fruits, cereal, rice, corn, traditional cakes, with a small shrine at the base for offerings.  They are usually put outside of family homes.

 

 

 

 

They symbolise the dominance of good (dharma) over evil (adharma), as well as offer thanks to God for the fruits of the Earth. 
 
 

 

 

 You see them all over Ubud.  I was fascinated by them.
