We finally got to see the wild parakeets in Brussels. I have read about them, but we had yet to see them. They were in the park not far from our apartment. Glad I had my camera.
Like any bird in the wild, they were very difficult to photograph. Monk parakeets normally live in South America, specifically in Argentina and Brazil. It is surprising that they can survive the winters here in Brussels, especially last winter, which was unseasonable cold. According to the Belgian newspaper, Flandersnews.be they are thriving and close to 10,000 of them in the city.
How did they get here? The story goes - the manager of an amusement park released 50 of them in 1975. People say they are very noisy. I thought they were beautiful!
hello. i was searching the Internet for a steelers bar in Brussels and was led to your blog (which is interesting and beautiful, by the way!). I am a pittsburgher, living in dc, and traveling to Brussels on saturday. I was really hoping to find a place, but am having no luck. do you perchance have any recommendations? all I know about where I'll be is that it's a crown plaza hotel in city centre. any suggestions or help you could offer would be greatly appreciated, thank you! I'll be I'm brussels for a week, I can't wait to see everything.

sorry, I'm asking solely about steelers bars! I just re-read that post and don't mean to imply a request for general Brussels info. thank you so!
