Kim's challenge this week was to create an image prompted by the word "light".  I love the way the light shimmers across the water in this photo.  I took it on our recent visit to the stunning Halong Bay in Vietnam.  It will be fun to see how others interpret this word.

This was a simple one for me, I used one texture, Coolgrunge by Kim.

But you know me......I can never use just one texture.  So here is the other version.  I added two of my own textures. 

I think the red texture is really cool because it is a shot of the inside of the boat in the photo.  Here is the original:

a gift for a friend

 

 

Friends are asking me how living in Singapore has influenced my art.  Between unpacking, decorating the apartment, and traveling - I haven't had any time for art.  I did send a friend a package, which was asian inspired.

 

 

 

I have lots if ideas in my head.....I just need time to create.  But off to Bali today  :   )

my obsession with the elephant

 

I am completely in love with the elephant.  This is a new phase since moving to Asia.  And the number one thing on my "bucket list" is to ride one.  Soon, I hope.

Made this quick little pair of earrings in honor of the elephant.

beyond layers: times 3 in bangkok

 

This week our Beyond Layers assignment was to take one photo and play with it three different ways.

How boring is this photo?

 

 

REALLY boring - but I loved the shape of the top of this old swing in Bangkok.  So I added this texture I took in Bangkok, along with several of Kim's wonderful textures:

I have to admit - I really like this image and was thinking about having version two printed to hang it in my dining room.  What do you think?  Which version do you like?

new cards - wedding

 

I have not made any cards since we moved.  A friend recently asked for a wedding card.  I had several made, but I had purchased new postcards of wedding couples just before we left Belgium.  I was anxious to use them so I created a handful of cards.  I miss making cards!  More incentive to get the room COMPLETE!  So I can start creating. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thursday came and went and the art room is not finished.  But I do have a handful of new cards!   :  )

This week's theme over at Texture Tuesday was "free and easy plus one of Kim's textures".  I thought this photo from our recent trip to New Zealand would be fun to work with.  The hubby actually took it.....but I did all the altering.  Does this still count?

at the orchid gardens

 

Taken at the Singapore orchid gardens - minutes before a HUGE rain storm came in.  Have I mentioned that it rains everyday here?  I keep telling myself....we are in the tropics!  Altered using Kim's two new watercolor textures "oh my" and " i am".

This week our assignment over at Beyond Layers was to create a self-portrait.  Sharing a self-portrait was not that hard for me, maybe because I have been posting photos of me and the hubby for years on the travel blog.  I used Kim's texture "and then some".

 

 

 

This photo was taken on my new opium bed in my new "uniform".....shorts!  Over the last 30 years, I have rarely worn shorts.  Now I wear tham all the time - even to go out shopping!  It is just so hot here.  Below is a full photo of the opium bed - I love this new little nook in my apartment.  It is hard to tell, but I painted the wall behind the bed taupe.

 

I decided to take a photo without make-up.  Now this was a bit more "exposing" and challenging for me, especially a close-up.  But here it is!  I used Kim's textures "aurora" & "and then some".

I am really enjoying this year long class.
