Thaipusam Festival in Singapore
2013
Thaipusam is a Hindu celebration of devotion, occurring on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (Jan/Feb). It is a time to give thanks to Muruga, the son of Shiva. If you do not know about this festival - it is one where they pierce the body to show devotion. It is quite the sight!
This year we were invited to walk with a family in the parade. A very unique and special opportunity.
Click here to visit our travel blog - the Xtra suitcase to read all about this very unusual celebration.
I changed the name of our travel blog to the Xtra suitcase. Why? Because I tag along with the hubby for all his work trips... I am his extra suitcase!

Eeeee! I am a little too squeamish for this one. Please tell me they remove all that stuff when it is over!

Malaysian Indians pierced themselves with hooks and skewers as they celebrated a Hindu festival hailed as a show of religious freedom after a spate of attacks on places of worship.I can never understand this way of piercings themselves for worship.
