“We have more possibilities available
in each moment than we realize.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
For 2013 I picked the word Simplify [sim-pluh-fahy] - To make less complex or complicated. make plainer or easier: to simplify a problem.
I have a problem managing time. It's not that I can't find the time or that I don't have the time, I just mismanage my time. There - I said it. Part of it is I am a perfectionist. I can spend hours on the smallest details. Details that don't matter to anyone but me. I can make an easy problem complex. I just need to make things simple.
I created this photo collage and then wanted a quote to go with it. I was thinking about one from a monk on simplifying. When I did a search, I found this list by Leo Babauta and thought it was EXACTLY what I need to follow. I have never heard of Leo Babauta and NO, I will not be converting to Buddhism - I just liked how this captured my thoughts.
12 Essential Rules to Live More Like a Zen Monk
1. Do one thing at a time.
2. Do it slowly and deliberately.
3. Do it completely.
4. Do less.
5. Put space between things.
6. Develop rituals.
7. Designate time for certain things.
8. Devote time to sitting.
9. Smile and serve others.
10. Get rid of clutter
11. Think about what is necessary.
12. Live simply.
I replaced number 10. It originally said - Make cleaning and cooking become meditation. This was the only one that did not resonate with me.
A note on how I settled on Simplify - I had a few words I was kicking around in my mind. On January 1st, the hubby was frustrated with me... something I was doing (really do not even remember what it was) and he said "just simplify it". I had not discussed "my word" with him, so he had no idea I was considering it. Boom - just like that, my word was decided.
What word did you choose for 2013 and why?

Cathy, I do not know how I missed this post but I just copied those words so I can print them. They will be hanging up in my office and at home to remind me.
I did not pick a specific word for the year but more of an intention. I want to slow down and spend more time in the moment and less time thinking and rushing ahead to the next thing. Your list will serve as a great reminder! Thank you for sharing.

i love the 12 rules you posted, and i also agree with the kathy that posted above me, simplify, live in the moment, after i read both these i mediately knew my word, "Remember" , everyday to remember how fortunate i am in this life to be surrounded by loved ones and to live in beauty, as simple as that and to live in the moment! but to not forget these things when life gets rushed and hectic! tx for sharing cathy! aloha, angi in hana
