.....we hopped on the plane in Brussels Belgium on December 29 and landed in Singapore on December 30 to begin our three-year Asian Adventure! I've compiled a recap of our first year in Singapore.
We have settled nicely into our apartment - I have painted, wallpapered and made curtains to make it feel more like "us".
We purchased several pieces of antique asian furniture, including the red chest and several accent pieces. We even made it into the Ex-pat Magazine:
Twice! Once for our red chest and once for my photo titled Bright Eyes, where I won runner up in their annual photo contest.
Singapore is a unique place to live (fun facts). It is one of the safest, cleanest countries in the world. It is also one of the most expensive. But I have found a few bargain places to shop like my very favorite store - Daiso.
We have experienced many firsts - Thaipusam, Chinese New Year, the Formula One Races, and eating Green Mussels.
Oh and the food! Singapore is a foodie heaven. We love our local wet market and hawker food court; which is across the street from our apartment. Because I go almost everyday for fresh food, the vendors know me. Our "fish guy" will even ask if I am cooking or if the hubby is cooking....why? I get the fish completely cleaned and de-boned - D cooks with it whole.
We have learned to cook with so many new Exotic Veggies and Fruits and now know the local names for foods; ie, ladyfingers vs okra.
We have also traveled extensively through Asia (10 countries), which you can read about on our Travel Blog. I will be creating a recap of our travels for my new year's blog, so stop back by in a few days.
What did we miss that is on the "To Do List" for 2013? Singapore's night zoo, fish head soup, pig's organ soup, Kaya toast for breakfast, Maxwell's food court, the new botanical garden - Gardens by the Bay, lunch at the White Rabbit....hummmm mostly food stuff. Better add: "visit our apartment fitness room"!
We are very happy we accepted this assignment, as Singapore is a fun, exotic place to live!

Wow, I cannot believe a whole year has flown by already. I'm looking forward to reading all about your adventures and I'm wishing you and D all the best in the fresh New Year!
